Bruce Jaffe is stepping down from his role as CEO of the domain name registry company Donuts Inc., about a month after it was acquired by Abry Partners, a private equity firm based in Boston.

Filling the CEO role will be Akram J. Atallah, a former executive at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a nonprofit that manages the global Domain Name System that underpins much of the internet. Atallah will step into the CEO job Nov. 12, while Jaffe will act as a strategic advisor during the transition.

Jaffe navigated Donuts through a very active period. Last year it raised a $110 million investment to help complete the acquisition of fellow domain company Rightside Group. Then in September, Donuts, which sells 240 “top-level domains” including .ltd, .company, .careers, .support and .email agreed to be acquired by Abry.

At the time of the acquisition, Donuts employed 110 people, with about half its workforce in the Seattle region, and plans to keep its offices after the deal is completed.
